On
11/2/04, I learned that Brian Regan may be appearing soon in an NBC
sitcom. I'll track this rumor on this page. If you find a
link to a story that does not appear here, please send it to me asap.
Thanks!
Brian Regan will team up with a good chunk of the team that
created Scrubs for his own sitcom.
"Brian is the absolute best comic out there that hasn't had
a sitcom yet," Lawrence said. "Tim and I connected early on
in our careers and our friendship over the fact that we both
worship this guy as a comic, and we'd always tell each other
that when either one of us had a chance to make a TV show
that we are going to try and make a show for him."
The headline of the Reuters story is "Rising Comic Regan
Gets Own Sitcom Project." Rising? This one might actually
fly. Those Scrubs guys have put together one of the most
underrated sitcoms ever.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Standup comic Brian
Regan, who has been plying the comedy circuit for more than
two decades, is developing an untitled sitcom project at
NBC.
Regan will play a version of
himself or, as producer Bill Lawrence described it, "a funny
guy who is uncomfortable in his own shoes and who is torn
between his wife and his best friend in a never-ending
battle for his soul between those two."
Lawrence, the creator of
NBC's hit "Scrubs," will partner with that show's
co-executive producer Tim Hobert, to write and executive
produce the project, which has received a script commitment
from the network.
"Brian is the absolute best
comic out there that hasn't had a sitcom yet," Lawrence
said. "Tim and I connected early on in our careers and our
friendship over the fact that we both worship this guy as a
comic, and we'd always tell each other that when either one
of us had a chance to make a TV show that we are going to
try and make a show for him."
Regan, a regular on both
"Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "Late Show with David
Letterman," has had his own specials on both Showtime and
Comedy Central. Inspired by Steve Martin, he started in the
business in the early '80s, at a club in Ft. Lauderdale,
Fla., near his Miami hometown.
Lawrence recently set up a
project at the WB Network called "Nobody's Watching," about
two twentysomething guys who win a reality show and get to
create their own sitcom.

UNTITLED BRIAN REGAN PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Comedian Brian
Regan is set to be the focus of a new sitcom at the Peacock
from "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence and writer Tim Hobert
about a married man who moves with his wife from the suburbs
to Chicago in search of more out of life. The project, which
has a script commitment at the network, is a result of a
talent holding deal Regan signed with the network as well as
Hobert's recent signing of a two-year, seven-figure overall
deal at NBC Universal Television. Hobert's pact actually
kicks in come June where he'll either showrun the Regan
project should it go to series or be loaned out as a
co-executive producer on "Scrubs" for Touchstone Television.

Lawrence has Hobert, Regan for NBC show
"Scrubs" creator Bill
Lawrence has teamed with the show's co-executive producer
Tim Hobert for a half-hour project for NBC starring comedian
Brian Regan. Separately, Hobert has inked a two-year overall
deal with NBC Universal Television to develop comedy shows
for the studio. The seven-figure pact is set to begin in
June. The untitled Brian Regan project, from NBC Uni TV,
will be a hybrid of Regan, Lawrence and Hobert's lives,
Lawrence said. In the show, which has received a premium
script commitment from the network, Regan will play a
version of himself or, as Lawrence describes it, "a funny
guy who is uncomfortable in his own shoes and who is torn
between his wife and his best friend in a never-ending
battle for his soul between those two." (Nellie Andreeva)
